You Have A Big Decision!

Father’s Day is right around the corner and you have to decide what to do about it.  Do you just send a cool Father’s Day Card, a gift card, or maybe choose a neat present a gift to Dad on Sunday, June 17th.

How did Father’s Day Come About?

One story for Father’s Day in the U.S. tells about a woman called Sonora Smart Dodd who was an influential figure in the establishment of Father’s Day here in the U.S.  Sonora’s father raised six children by himself after the death of their mother. At the time, it was uncommon for a widower to raise his children by himself – usually children of widowed men were placed in the care of family or the man married again quickly.  But Sonora’s dad chose to raise all of his children by himself.

Inspired by the work of Anna Jarvis, who had pushed for Mother’s Day celebrations, Sonora felt that her father deserved recognition for what he had done. The first time Father’s Day was held was in June in 1910. Father’s Day was officially recognized as a holiday in 1972 by President Nixon.

Choosing a Present for Dad

Unlike on Mother’s day, when a beautiful flower arrangement will delight most moms, Dad is a little harder to choose a gift for.  Many gifts for Father’s will be related to a sport he plays or likes to watch.

New sports equipment can be a good gift, neat t-shirts and caps are always a fun gift.  Coffee mugs and cups with special sayings and stuffed with a small bag of new coffee to try, are sure to get a laugh or a smile of appreciation.

If dad is a Gourmet Grill Chef, then something to help with grilling might be a good idea.  Tools and fishing and hunting items are big hits with those who love to build, fish or hunt.

Clothing can be a practical gift, if not an exciting one.  When my husband was in the workforce a new tie or new handkerchiefs worked for him.

Be sure to order your gift in time.

We still have a few weeks until Father’s Day so you can check out our Seasonal Shop on the Bella Vista Online Mall or one of our other cool Shops and purchase a gift that will be here in plenty of time.
